Earlier this year I was contacted by the team responsible for renovating a collection of old farm buildings on the family farm of Thetford Barn in Lincolnshire. I was invited to be one of the first to view their plans and visit the building site to see the scope of the project for myself.
Thetford Farm Barn is a long established, family run farm business. As with so many rural businesses, diversification is key to their survival so the idea of restoring and improving some of their 18th century farm buildings into a wedding and event space was initiated. The granary barn is able to cater for a licensed ceremony for over 200 seated guests. With the threshing doors now replaced with floor to ceiling windows, the exposed brick walls and high vaulted ceiling, this is a stunning setting for any couple to say their I do’s. The beauty about this space, other than its size, is that it can be left simple or you can really go to town with the decor, the choice is yours and either option works. If you have smaller guest numbers it’s also possible to configure the layout to create a more intimate space for your ceremony. I know I can’t wait to work with this space to create something magical.
The Piggery is a renovated space that has been extended to create a light and airy dining space, for up to 200 guests. However, if your guest numbers exceed that, a further 200 can be accommodated in a marquee extension. There is a bar included in the Piggery and a catering kitchen. I love that everything has been considered and thought through.
The estate also boasts a gorgeous wildflower meadow, farmland views as far as the eye can see and thoughtfully landscaped outside areas, perfect for drinks receptions or to soak up the evening light. The venue also has a bridal dressing suite included, perfect for having everyone together in the morning to enjoy getting ready together and a private space for your registrar interview. It also provides a comfortable location for freshening up during the day.
The addition of accommodation on site in 2025, means brides and grooms will really get to experience their wedding to the fullest. Offering a full weekend to really make the most of having all your friends and families together it’s a unique opportunity that will add to your wedding experience.
